The setting is Florida and its swamps,rivers, and rural residents, and the proximity is your own backyard. Lamborn has crafted a ripping good story (no pun intended) that is part X-Files, part Swamp Thing and just weird enough to be part True Detectives.

Finally got a chance polish this one off. For you horror fans out there, you'll like this one. Starting with a bizarre set of murders a mixed bag of Florida law enforcement officers team up with a monster hunter to track down the real culprit. Low on available resources, they have to use their heads to try and stop the rampaging beast before he kills more innocents.Decent character interactions and a good amount of character development, although I wish the secondary characters were even more developed. They seemed very interesting and wanted to know more about them.
The story itself was interesting, with one heck of a beginning scene that makes you question going for a run in a secluded area. It really does help to grab you and immerse you into the story.
At times, not being a local to the area, it seemed that the descriptions of the Southwest Florida area in question is a bit too detailed and more than once made me want to glance at a map to get an idea of where what was going on, but it did add a sense of that small town feel that was critical to the narrative.
Overall, a worthy read and definitely a recommended one. :)

Super scary yet real enough to make you think "It COULD happen". After all... All the myths and urban legends started somewhere. Right?
This was a new genre for me. Great story; interesting, realistic characters; nice twists throughout.
When I was a kid I remember watching Jaws and afterwards having an unnatural fear of going swimming in the local pool. After reading "A Taste for Something New" I tend to 9range groves. From the first page to the last, I was sucked in to this story. As a resident oF SWFL, I know enough to recognize certain landmarks and terrains which only adds to the charm of this book. A truly enjoyable read!
Just gruesome enough to keep this horror fan happy. I love how it gets right into the grizzly without a lot of build up, then never stops moving. I couldn't put it down, and can't wait to see what this author does next.
Being from south Florida and knowing several people in the Charlotte and Lee county police force, this book had special meaning to me. I couldn't imagine losing people that I know and love while they are tracking a killer.
It is a short, easy read and worth the time to read it. You will be enthralled from the beginning until the end!
