So, I'm binge reading this series. I'm 10 books in and don't have any desire to move on to another book or series. That's a pretty good indication of how well written these books are.In this book, we watch Xen and his career in the army. He's gaining experience both in his wizard skills and in dealing with military issues. Being a somewhat anonymous magic wielder has its amusing moment for him as he works with people to whom magic is a fairy tale for children.
Battling bandits and dealing with the Oners, who apparently are not done with the planet of Comet Fall, keep him pretty busy. And then there are all the witch women who would like to use him for breeding purposes.... It could be worse.

Young Warriors Wine of the Gods Book 10 eBook Pam Uphoff Reviews
The descendants of the magic users are all coming of age and moving into the worlds of "the wine of the gods" series. This latest addition to the series deals a lot more with the romantic dalliances of the young wizards and witches and needed more action. This seemed to be more of a short story with lots of "filler" pieces to tie it all together. The intrigue and adventure that is found in other books of the series seem to be lacking in this one. On to the next book in this epic series to see what worlds will be dealing with magic genes next!
There is many characters in the book all introduced throughout the Wine of the God's series. This can make the story complex bit I find it worth it - especially nbecause of the nuanced details and and interesting turn of events. It's like wine, gets better as you go through more of it )
This book is another excellent chapter in a great series. Lots of interesting characters and lots of action. Read them all.
Easy to get wrapped up in this series
This author was faboulious. I got one of the series for free and finished it and bough every other book in the series I had the money for. I read them mostly in order in a three day marathon of escape into a world in which I hated to leave. This is an established author with several series and she will get most of my disposable income for a couple of months.
A great story teller makes you believe the tale. A master leaves you wondering which world is real and which is fiction. Pam Uphoff is a master storyteller.
This author seems to have unlimited creativity. This book, the eighth in the "Wine of the Gods" series, is fresh, entertaining, compelling, and captivating. The primary character in the previous books is Rustle. With this book, Xen, who happens to be Rustle's son, becomes the central character and hero, and this book begins another creative sub-series.
The story is a fantasy adventure with the participants having unique blends of magic, medieval, and future high-tech, with unexpected and scintillating twists and turns in the plot. This book can easily be read before the others in the series but will probably be enjoyed more after reading the rest.
